Add Extensions to Vivaldi from Chrome Web Store.
Vivaldi comes with a lot of built-in functionality, but you can do some additional fine tuning by adding Extensions. Since Vivaldi is built on Chromium, most Extensions available on Chrome Web Store also work in Vivaldi.
To add Extensions:
- In Vivaldi, go to Chrome Web Store.
- Search for the extension you want to add to Vivaldi.
- On the extension’s profile, click Add to Vivaldi.
- In the dialog, click Add extension.
To learn more, go to our Help page about Extensions.

Enable “Remove cookie warnings” in Tracker and Ad Blocker settings to hide websites’ cookie dialogs.
Since Europe’s GDPR and a few other user privacy laws don’t allow placing Cookies in your browser without consent, on your first visit, most websites ask for your permission as soon as the page has loaded. Accepting all cookies will allow the website and third parties to collect information on you and use the data in an attempt to influence your decisions later on. Until there’s better legislation, we recommend rejecting these cookies. But, depending on the website, rejecting all cookies can take minutes, slowing down your browsing significantly.
That’s why we’ve added a way to remove these cookie dialogs in the browser. To enable it:
- Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Tracker and Ad Blocking > Blocking Level.
- Enable Block Trackers and Ads.
- Then, click Manage Sources.
- In the list of Ad Blocking sources, look for “Remove cookie warnings (EasyList Cookie List)” and “Remove cookie warnings (I don’t care about cookies)” and enable them.
Enabling these lists will simply block the service that asks for consent, or hide the consent dialog, in the same way as it might remove a tracker or an ad. Without consent cookies cannot be placed in the browser.
We at Vivaldi believe that spying on users on the Internet using cookies and other tracking methods should be banned. To join our fight, check out https://banspying.org and share it with your friends.

Switch Themes with a keyboard shortcut.
Not in the mood for the current theme, but don’t feel like opening Themes Settings either to pick a different one? No problem. In Vivaldi, you can switch to the next theme in your Theme Library with a Keyboard Shortcut.
Since the command doesn’t come with a default shortcut, you first need to assign one to it.
- Go to Settings > Keyboard > View.
- Find the command ‘Next Theme’ on the list.
- Assign a shortcut to it.
Now, whenever you feel like changing the theme, just use the shortcut. Use it multiple times in a row to shuffle through all themes in your Theme Library.
By the way, you can also type “Next Theme” in Quick Commands or use a Mouse Gesture.

Organise your Tab Stacks by renaming them.
When you group tabs into a stack, the icon and title of the most recent active tab in the stack will be shown on the Tab Bar. With many tabs and stacks, locating the tab you need can still take time. Tab Stack renaming to the rescue!!! By giving the stack a title, you can spot the right stack on the Tab Bar in no time. 💪
There are a couple of ways to rename a Tab Stack.
Option 1
- Right-click on the Tab Stack.
- Select Rename Tab Stack from the context menu.
- Give the Tab Stack a name.
- Press Enter or focus elsewhere in the browser to save the new name.
Option 2
- Double-click on the Tab Stack.
- Give the Tab Stack a name.
- Press Enter or focus elsewhere in the browser to save the new name.
In case you have enabled minimizing tabs or closing tabs on double-click, it’s not possible to start renaming a Tab Stack with double-click.
Option 3
- In the Window Panel, right-click on the Tab Stack.
- Select Rename from the context menu.
- Give the Tab Stack a name.
- Press Enter or focus elsewhere in the browser to save the new name.

To resize a Panel:
- Right-click on a Panel you want to resize.
- Select Separate Width from the context menu.
- Place the mouse cursor over the outer edge of the Panel and drag to resize.

When sharing the URL itself is not convenient or possible, share links using QR codes generated in Vivaldi
There are multiple ways to generate a QR code on the desktop version of Vivaldi.

- Make sure you’ve enabled the QR Code Generator in Settings > Address Bar > Address Field Options.
- Open the web page you want to generate the QR code for.
- Click on the QR code button on the right side of the Address Field.
Option 2
- Open the web page you want to generate the QR code for.
- Open Quick Commands.
- Type “Create QR Code for Active Page”.
- Press Enter to execute the command.
Option 3
- Create a Keyboard Shortcut or a Mouse Gesture for creating QR codes in Settings.
- Open the web page you want to generate the QR code for.
- Use the shortcut whenever you want to create a new QR code.
When the code has been created, you can download the QR code as an image, copy the QR code image, or show your device’s screen to someone, who can scan the QR code with their device.

Type “Show Webpage Access Key Shortcuts” in Quick Commands to see which shortcuts you can use on the open web page.
Access Keys are a way to use a website’s key functionalities through keyboard shortcuts. Each website defines these shortcuts themselves.
To view the available shortcuts, either:
- Open Quick Commands and start typing “Show Webpage Access Key Shortcuts”.
- Apply Inline Access Keys Page Action from the Status Bar.
- Set a Keyboard Shortcut or a Mouse Gesture for this action in Settings.
To use the shortcut, hold down Shift+Alt (Ctrl ⌥ on maOS) and the listed key to run the shortcut on the open web page.

Go to chrome://settings to access additional browser settings.
Vivaldi is based on Chromium. This means that we inherit the settings Chromium comes with. We have transferred all the important settings to Vivaldi Settings, where they can be accessed together with settings that are unique to Vivaldi.
To access the settings that are not available in Vivaldi Settings, type chrome://settings
to the Address Field. Once the page loads, the URL will automatically change to vivaldi://settings
. Typing vivaldi://settings
directly to the Address Field will, however, take you to the main Vivaldi Settings.

May 4, 2022
On the left side of the Address Field, click on 🔍 to search for the entered word/phrase or to go to the entered URL.
Most of us probably just press Enter
on our keyboards when we’re ready to do a search or open a website, but did you know there’s a button in the user interface you can click instead?
The Site Info button turns into a Go to Address button on the Start Page or when you’ve entered something in the Address Field. Just click on the magnifying glass, when you’re ready to see the search results or load the web page.
In case you’ve used a search engine nickname before your search term, you’ll see the chosen search engine’s logo instead. You can click that one too.

Change the look of Vivaldi’s user interface with custom CSS modifications.
If you’re familiar with reading and writing code, you can edit the desktop browser’s user interface with your own custom CSS modifications.
To get started:
- In
vivaldi://experiments
, enable “Allow for using CSS modifications”. - In Settings > Appearance > Custom UI Modifications, select the folder where you’ll store all your custom CSS files.
- Restart the browser.
Now you can start inspecting the user interface using Developer Tools, write up your own CSS for the elements you want to change and see the browser transform to fit your preferences even more.
Vivaldi Community shares and works on modifications together on the Forum’s Modifications category. Feel free to ask assistance and share your work there.
Important! Code shared on the forum has not been reviewed by the Vivaldi Team. Which means that issues, including security issues, may be present.
If you don’t want to risk corrupting your main browser profile, test your modifications in a different User Profile or use a Standalone version of Vivaldi.

Highlight text on a web page, right-click on the selection and select “Search…” to get results in an instant.
Instead of copying and pasting or, heaven forbid, manually typing a search term from a web page to the Address or Search Field,
- Highlight the text you want to search with.
- Right-click on the highlighted text.
- Select Search [your default search engine] for [highlighted text].
To search with a different search engine, hover over Search With and choose a search engine.

Hold down the Ctrl / ⌘ key to change the location of buttons in the browser’s user interface.
Don’t like the default order of Panels? Or you’d prefer to have some buttons currently residing on the Status Bar on the Address Bar instead. No problem, Vivaldi has got you covered. 😎
To move toolbar buttons:
- Press and hold down the Ctrl / ⌘ key on your keyboard.
- Click and drag the button you want to move.
- A line showing the new location will appear when the button can be dropped.
- Release the mouse button and keyboard key. On macOS, release the ⌘ key before releasing the mouse button.
